FINAL ESSAY

Today ,in South Central, there is a lot of diversity.South Central has way less gangs than it used to have as well.South Central’s stereotypes ,in my eyes, is what motivates citizens here to strive for more.South Central also isn’t as dangerous as it used to be.People here are overall starting to get along more because we realize that we are all not that  much different. The three most important events that have had the greatest impact on making South Central LA what it is today are the LA riots, immigration, and the crack epidemic.
The first event that has had a great impact on making LA what it is today is the LA riots. The thing that triggered the LA riots is the verdict of the Rodney King situation.A man named Rodney King was  crippled and severely beaten w/ permanent brain damaged and a fractured skull,by four white police,on tape! The police who did it were put on trial, but were found NOT GUILTY.On April 29th 1992,when LosAngeles citizens found out about the verdict, the city exploded.the 5 day destruction was what was brought to be called the LA riots. The riots had to be broken up by the national guards, and over $1billion worth of damages were done to LosAngeles,The LA riots definitely had an effect on LA today.
The second event that has helped make LA what it is today is immigration.Immigration from other places to LA is probably why is it so multiracial.People came to LA for cheaper homes, and better jobs. Now LA is a very diverse city.Although the city is diverse, the people who mostly immigrated is blacks and Latinos. Now,those two races are a majority of LA ,and in my eyes, that has a huge impact on why it is the way it is now.

Another event that has contributed to making LA what it is today is the crack epidemic. The crack epidemic started when the government brought crack in to south central LA to get money for the war in Nicaragua. The war was the Sandinistas vs. The US.The US needed the money,so they targeted the poor and the ghetto. The crack epidemic greatly affected  LA because it broke tons of families apart. Many people lost either their moms or dads due to crack, and LA definitely got a bad reputation.

There has been many events that we learned about that has made LA what it is today.i think that the three that as contributed the most is the LA riots, immigration, and the crack cocaine epidemic. The LA riots was the point where LA citizens just had enough.Immigration is the reason that LA is so multiracial. Also, the crack epidemic hurt many families in Los Angles and somewhat gave it a bad reputation.I think that since LA has been through so much,we will know what not to do in the future. LA citizens has learned from the past and we know what is expected of us.WE WILL SUCCEED.
